2.2 The three vital elements of the culturally effective pediatric care
In this regard culturally effective pediatric patient care can be defined as the provision of care within the context of three vital elements: knowledge, understanding and appreciation. That is, a physician must know about the patient’s cultural views, i.e. be informed about them. Next, understanding these views helps the physician to see how the patient’s culture affects his or her thinking, behavior and decisions. Most important, having a measure of appreciation means respecting cultural views and beliefs eves different from one’s own. Culturally effective pediatric care therefore requires educational investment.
